Kollaborate Server 1.1.2 released - approve/reject files, overhauled uploader

Earlier this week we released Kollaborate Server 1.1.2, bringing many new features to our in-house workflow platform.

The changes are similar to those of the cloud version with some additional server-specific features and tweaks.

Approve and deny files

Users can mark a file as needing approval, which alerts all admins on the project and allows them to approve or reject it. You can optionally include an explanation when approving / rejecting.

Overhauled uploader

We have a brand new drag and drop uploader which allows you to upload batches of files at once.

Drag and drop file interface

You can now drag files onto folders to move them or drag onto another file to combine them as revisions.

Dark UI

We've had several requests for this - you can now choose a dark skin for navigating the site. Click your name in the top right corner to toggle between light and dark.

Reminders

Users who have not viewed a link sent to them within 7 days will now receive a reminder email, as will admins where a file has been marked as Needs Approval for 7 days. Only one reminder is sent.

If upgrading from an existing installation, you'll need to go into the installer, skip through until you reach the Scheduled Tasks page and install the daily script to enable this feature.

Installer tweaks

We've made several improvements to the installer, including improved Ubuntu compatibility and various tweaks to scheduled tasks.

Kollaborate Server is a version of the Kollaborate cloud workflow platform that you can run in-house on your own servers and storage, with full control over security and improved customization. To find out more about Kollaborate, view the feature list, read the Kollaborate Server documentation or sign up for the free 15-day cloud trial (no credit card needed).

Kollaborate 1.1.2 - approve/reject files, overhauled uploader

We've just released Kollaborate 1.1.2 on the cloud. In addition to the recent storage space bumps and new pricing packages, we've introduced some great new features.

Approve and deny files

Users can mark a file as needing approval, which alerts all admins on the project and allows them to approve or reject it.

Kollaborate Transfer

In Kollaborate Transfer 1.1.3 you can set the status of a file (Work in Progress, Needs Approval) before uploading and optionally switch off automatic upload notification emails to other users on the project.

Other changes

  • Timecode overlay when hovering over the timeline
  • When switching between revisions, it now skips to same time position in the new file
  • Files with identical names are now automatically revised
  • Colors are now respected when importing marker lists
  • Simplified dialog for inviting users to a project

Kollaborate storage space bump and new pricing packages

Today we boosted the storage space of all Kollaborate subscribers free of charge. If you were on the 10 GB package, you're now getting 12 GB, 20 GB is now 25 GB and 50 GB is now 60 GB. Users on the 50 GB package are also getting 40 users instead of 25. You can view the current range of packages here.

When we released Kollaborate Server we removed our previous high-end packages because we assumed high-end users would prefer the in-house hosting option. While this was largely true, there still remained customers who preferred us to handle hosting, setup and security so these packages are now back again.

We've also made the introductory pricing permanent on the lower packages, added a new mid-tier package with 40 GB storage and reduced the prices of add-on user and storage packs. This means that getting the exact package that meets your needs is easier and more cost-effective than before.

To find out more about how Kollaborate connects with Digital Rebellion products to improve your file review and approval workflow, view the feature list and FAQ, watch the overview video or try out the free 15-day trial (no credit card required).

Pro Media Tools 1.3 released with QT Edit batch overhaul

We've just launched Pro Media Tools 1.3, a major new update to our suite of media management tools.

QT Edit batch overhaul

We've completely overhauled batch processing in QT Edit, boosting performance and stability. This has allowed us to remove the limit on the number of files that can be processed simultaneously in a batch (trial users are still limited to 5 files per batch).

The batch processing UI has also been redesigned. As you queue up tasks, they appear in the Task Queue on the right. This allows you to see which actions will be performed on the files in the batch and you can delete tasks if you change your mind before submitting the batch.

Adobe CC 2014 and FCPX 10.1.2 support

We've also qualified this version for use with Adobe CC 2014 and FCPX 10.1.2, as well as improving Render Watcher compatibility with Adobe Media Encoder.

The full list of changes is available here.

CinePlay 1.1 for Mac released with audio playback, ganging and more

Yesterday we released CinePlay 1.1 for Mac, a major update to our professional media player.

Audio playback

CinePlay will now play back WAV, MP3, M4A and AIFF audio files.

Playhead ganging

Link multiple videos together and play them back at the same time. This is really useful for comparing two versions of a shot side-by-side.

Playlists

Create and play back M3U playlists.

Kollaborate Synced Sessions

Allow colleagues to remotely control playback so that you can both watch a video at the same time.

Customizable safe areas

We've had a lot of requests for it - safe areas are now customizable. This is useful because broadcasters sometimes have different safe area specs.

Kollaborate changes

Many changes to Kollaborate cloud functionality, including cmd-clicking to open a revision in a new window (this works really well with the new ganging feature), an overhaul of the Kollaborate file browser to allow sorting by date and file size, and switching to a revision now keeps the playhead in the same place instead of going back to the beginning.

Other changes

  • Previous playback position is remembered (this can be switched off in prefs)
  • Play around frame and play in to out options added
  • Playback loop option
  • Added an option to only play audio from frontmost window
  • Kollaborate file browser shows which files are unviewed
  • Press Cmd+Opt+E to export the current frame to the desktop without stopping playback
  • Prevented the screen from dimming during playback
  • Mouse cursor hides in full screen
  • Marker editing dialog is multi-line
  • Overhauled the timecode dialog
  • Added a Trim menu option
  • Fixed an issue where it may be difficult to add a marker in full screen
  • Fixed an issue where it may not be possible to select all text in the marker popup
  • Fixed an issue where export progress may be inaccurate
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when closing a movie
  • Various other bug fixes, tweaks and optimizations

CinePlay is an invaluable tool for video professionals. To find out more, see the feature list, watch the overview video, read the user manual or download the free 15-day trial. All cloud functionality is free for Kollaborate users.

Improved cloud integration

We've made many improvements to CinePlay's integration with our cloud workflow platform, Kollaborate, including adding blue dots next to each file to show if it is unviewed and improving the reliability of downloads.

Cut Notes 2.3 released with Autosave Vault and hold improvements

We've just released Cut Notes 2.3, a major new version of our iPad note-taking app for media professionals.

Autosave Vault

Up to 10 copies of a cut are now backed up automatically and can be restored from the Cut Browser. The number of notes is shown to help you determine which backup is correct in the case of accidental note deletion.

Hold improvements

We've changed the hold behavior to be similar to version 1.x of Cut Notes. You can now tap the timecode display to hold (turning it blue), then tap a range of notes to have them appended to the held timecode position. To unhold, tap the timecode display again.

Improved Kollaborate integration

You can now take notes on audio files stored on Kollaborate. Cut Notes also indicates which Kollaborate files have not been viewed.

Several other changes were made and the full list can be viewed here.

Last week we released Pro Maintenance Tools 2.0.23, a minor update to our flagship suite of maintenance and optimization tools for your NLE.

Improved host app support

This version adds support for the new changes in Adobe Creative Cloud 2014 and FCPX 10.1.2.

Autosave Manager FCPX support

Autosave Manager now allows you to view, manage and restore the automatic project backups FCPX creates.

Preference Manager 4.2

Pro Maintenance Tools includes Preference Manager 4.2, with new features including Adobe CC 2014 and Lightworks support.

ColorSync cache support in System Toolkit

System Toolkit can now automatically trash the ColorSync cache which is known to fix certain display issues in FCPX and Adobe Premiere.
