Kollaborate Server 1.0.1 released - Post Haste integration, team privacy and more

In conjunction with our earlier Post Haste 2.5 launch, we also released Kollaborate Server 1.0.1. Kollaborate Server is our workflow platform that companies can run in-house, but the same changes have also been made to the cloud version of Kollaborate too.

Post Haste unique project ID support

Kollaborate Server can now maintain a database of project IDs and prevent Post Haste users from creating duplicate projects.

Team privacy

You can now specify privacy options when creating a project that limit what non-admins are able to see. You can choose to show all users in the project on the Team page, just users in the same department or no other people. You can also prevent email addresses and phone numbers from being visible. These features do not affect admins, who can always see everything.

UI Improvements

We've made various UI tweaks and improvements to the site including new icons, overhauled download pages and overhauled notification emails.

Other changes

  • Added view and download counts
  • Users no longer need to enter a password if link comments are disabled
  • My Files link added to user dropdown
  • Auto-pause option removed if it's a video or audio file
  • Kollaborate Server: Several bug fixes that could cause failed uploads or downloads in certain instances

Kollaborate is a cloud workflow platform for video professionals that tightly integrates and extends Digital Rebellion applications. To find out more, view the features page or sign up for the free trial.

Kollaborate Server is a version of Kollaborate you can run in-house on your own servers and storage. To install the newest update, login and visit the Kollaborate Server page. We've also now got an RSS feed you can subscribe to for notification of future updates.

Post Haste 2.5 released with Kollaborate integration

Earlier today we released Post Haste 2.5 for Mac, a significant update for our free project organization and templating tool.

Cloud projects

We've integrated the app with our Kollaborate cloud workflow platform, allowing you to create cloud projects directly within Post Haste and recreate your project structures in the cloud. This ensures that your Kollaborate projects have a consistent and organized folder structure, which is very useful when collaborating with lots of people on the same project.

Synced templates and settings

Kollaborate integration allows us to offer automatic syncing of templates and manual syncing of settings, making it easy to access your parameters and templates on other computers.

Unique project IDs

Post Haste can now ensure that multiple users don't cause confusion by inadvertently using the same project ID for different projects. This feature requires Kollaborate Server.

We've also added some new project templates that were requested by users, fixed several bugs and added some extra polish here and there. The full list of changes is available here.

As mentioned earlier, version 2.5 is currently Mac-only. Our Windows apps need significant changes in order to be ready for cloud features, so this work is currently underway. We will still be releasing bug fixes for the current Windows version while this work is taking place.

Post Haste is a free and essential templating and project organization tool. To find out more, watch the overview video, read the user manual or download the app free of charge.

Post Haste 2.5 B3 released with unique project ID support

We've just released a new beta of Post Haste 2.5, our free Mac project organization tool with Kollaborate cloud workflow support.

In this version we've added support for unique project IDs. This allows multiple people to use Post Haste at the same time without fear of creating duplicate project IDs. This is a feature request we've had from the very beginning so we're glad to be able to offer it.

This feature requires Kollaborate Server. To set it up, go to the Kollaborate pane of preferences, enter the URL to your local Kollaborate installation on the Local Server tab, then login on the Authorize tab. Make sure Ensure project IDs are unique is ticked.

New users won't need to do this but if you've used Post Haste before you'll need to tell the app which parameter is the project ID. To do this, go to the Parameters tab, scroll the list to the right and tick Unique Project ID.

Now if you try to create a project with an ID that's already taken, you'll receive the following message:

Note: this only works for projects created from now on.

We've also released a beta of Kollaborate Server 1.0.1 with support for this feature, which you can download from the Kollaborate Server page. After installing you'll need to visit yoursite/upgrade to upgrade the database. We've also added a Tools page to the admin section that allows you to reset the project ID cache.

When we launched Kollaborate earlier this year we made a point of stressing that it is not just a video review site, it's a platform that we can build upon. Kollaborate allows us to improve our tools in ways that we would not be able to with third-party solutions, and this is just one example of many to come. Additionally, Kollaborate Server allows us to create features that would not be feasible in the cloud, so expect lots of extra functionality soon.

Post Haste 2.5 B3 is available here.

Announcing Preference Manager 4 - cloud backups, Pro Tools support and more

We're pleased to announce the launch of Preference Manager 4.0. This is a major new update to our free app for managing preferences for your editing system.

Cloud backups

Preference Manager is now integrated with Kollaborate to store backups in the cloud. This provides redundancy and allows preferences to be easily transferred to another computer.

When creating a backup you'll now be asked if you want to create a local backup, a cloud backup or both. Cloud backups will be uploaded to Kollaborate and you'll be able to access the backup on any other computer by logging into your Kollaborate account in the Preferences window. It even supports Kollaborate Server for companies that need complete control over their data.

Improved Adobe support

As well as adding support for Adobe Creative Cloud, applications are now organized into suites where appropriate. Unlike previous versions of Preference Manager, multiple copies of Adobe Creative Suite will now appear as individual options for trashing, backing up or restoring. This allows you to trash preferences for the version of Premiere you are using without having to trash them for every copy of Premiere on your computer.

We're also now supporting Adobe Audition, Encore, Media Encoder and Prelude.

Pro Tools support

Preference Manager now supports Pro Tools 9.0 and higher.

Improved project handling

The project handling feature designates Preference Manager as the default application for launching project files from the Finder. This allows you to link a backup to a project so that it is restored before the project is loaded.

This was previously limited to Final Cut Studio only but we have now expanded it to Adobe projects and Pro Tools sessions.

This is just an overview of the changes - you can see the full list here.

Preference Manager is a popular and essential tool for troubleshooting and managing your user settings. Download it free today.

Kollaborate Server released, also double storage for cloud users

We're pleased to announce the launch of Kollaborate Server, a version of our Kollaborate cloud workflow system that businesses can run in-house on their own servers and storage.

This allows businesses to store large quantities of data without being subject to storage limitations and be in charge of the security of their data.

Kollaborate Server has all of the features of the cloud version and will even work with our Kollaborate-optimized apps such as Kollaborate Transfer, Cut Notes and CinePlay. You can get these apps to work with Kollaborate Server by pointing them to the URL of the server in their preferences dialog / settings bundles.

We have three packages available, designed for various-sized businesses, or you can opt for the Unlimited edition which has no user limitations. To purchase you'll need a free Kollaborate account which you can sign up for here.

We've tried to make the installation process as painless as possible with installation scripts and detailed instructions, but we still recommend it is installed and hardened by someone experienced with web server administration. Kollaborate Server is designed for businesses so users with lower storage and user requirements should opt for the cloud version.

We've also streamlined our package offerings for cloud users. We are no longer offering cloud packages for large businesses and recommend Kollaborate Server instead for those users. This has freed us up to double storage space for freelancers and small businesses on the cloud version and lower the price of storage add-ons.

We're excited to reach this much-requested milestone for Kollaborate and we have lots of great features coming soon. To find out more about Kollaborate, both as a cloud service and local server, visit kollaborate.tv.

Kollaborate now out of beta

We're pleased to announce that Kollaborate is now out of beta.

Kollaborate is a cloud workflow platform for video professionals that offers file review and approval, task management and tight integration with Digital Rebellion products.

The response from our customers has been very positive and we're glad to reach this milestone. Here's a summary of some of the changes in version 1.0.

App Storage

We've laid the foundations for cloud projects and preferences across our product range and will be updating our apps to take advantage of this soon.

New Messages and Team interfaces

We've overhauled Messages to be cleaner and easier to use. We've also overhauled the process of adding a new team member to the Team page so it's quicker and simpler.

New billing system

We now have a new billing system that gives customers much greater control over their account, particularly when it comes to ramping up storage and users on a temporary basis. Customers on our existing billing system do not need to do anything - you can keep using it without interruption, but if you want to make changes to your account let us know and we'll transition you over to the new system.

Kollaborate Transfer

Kollaborate Transfer is also out of beta today and allows you to quickly and easily upload files to Kollaborate.

New in this release is the ability to automatically retry a failed upload. It will also remember the last settings used when adding a new file to save time, as well as displaying Growl / Notification Center alerts when files successfully upload.

What's next?

Very soon we will be releasing Kollaborate Server to let you run Kollaborate in-house on your own hardware, as well as adding Kollaborate integration to more of our apps. We've built a solid foundation that allows us to do a lot of exciting things and we can't wait to release what we've been working on.

To find out more about Kollaborate, check out the overview video on the homepage, view the feature list or sign up for the free trial.

Adobe Creative Cloud compatibility with Digital Rebellion products

Today Adobe launched Adobe Creative Cloud, with many new features for Premiere Pro and other apps in the suite. We've been playing about with it for a while and our apps are largely compatible (also due to our recent policy of trying to make our tools as app-agnostic as possible).

Here is a list of useful information you need to know when using our products with the new version.

Cut Notes

Cut Notes works a lot better with Premiere Pro CC and it is our preferred version of Premiere to use with the app. It does not require a plugin and you also gain remote playback capabilities from the iPad.

You can read a guide to setting it up here.

Preference Manager

Preference Manager is not compatible with the Creative Cloud apps but we have an update in the works that will support them along with some new features too. This is being targeted for release within the next few weeks.

Plugin Manager

Plugin Manager does not display plugins for Adobe CC apps. This will be addressed in the next update.

Post Haste

Post Haste does not have blank Premiere Pro CC project file templates but is otherwise compatible.

Any app we haven't listed works the same with the new version as it did before.
