Pro Media Tools 1.4.6 - preserve movie timestamps in QT Edit batch mode

We've just released Pro Media Tools 1.4.6, a minor update to our suite of media management and workflow tools for video professionals.

Preserve timestamps in QT Edit

Batch mode now has an option to preserve timestamps. This allows you to modify a group of files but keep the creation / modification dates the same. This is helpful for situations where your workflow depends on the files having particular dates and times.

Other changes

  • QT Edit - Added additional ARRI metadata presets
  • QT Edit - Conforming is now aborted if the user does not have write permissions for the file
  • QT Edit - Fixed an issue where exported timecode in marker lists could be incorrect
  • Post Haste - Updated the default templates to use the new [template] filename syntax (go to Tools > Restore Default Templates to get the new ones)
  • Post Haste - Added support for Premiere Pro 2015.3 project files
  • Post Haste - Removed Kollaborate support (for now)
  • Various other bug fixes, tweaks and improvements

Pro Media Tools 1.4.5 - import timecode from BWF files, conform improvements

Last week we released Pro Media Tools 1.4.5, a minor update to our suite of media management and workflow tools.

Import timecode from BWF files

QT Edit has a new quick task to import timecode from Broadcast Wave (BWF) audio files. You can either select a single file to import from or an entire folder. If you select the latter, it will match audio files to video files with the same name in the batch.

Conform improvements

We've improved the accuracy and reliability of conforming video files to different frame rates in QT Edit.

Other changes

  • QT Edit - Fixed an issue where the Discard button does nothing when closing a batch that hasn't been submitted
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the Open dialog in several apps to show at startup even if a previous file was automatically reopened
  • Various other fixes and tweaks

Pro Media Tools 1.4.4 released with new QT Edit Quick Tasks

Earlier this week we released Pro Media Tools 1.4.4, a minor update to our suite of media management and workflow tools for video professionals.

QT Edit Quick Tasks

We’ve added some new Quick Tasks to QT Edit:

  • Invert pixel aspect ratio (e.g. 10:11 becomes 11:10)
  • Copy reel name from filename - Sets the timecode track’s reel name field to the movie’s filename
  • Copy reel name from folder name - Sets the timecode track’s reel name field to the folder that the movie is located in

The reel name tasks in particular are extremely useful when applying to multiple clips at once in a batch.

  • QT Edit - An alert message is now only shown for the first Quick Task queued up in batch mode
  • Various other minor bug fixes and tweaks

Pro Media Tools 1.4.3 - set QT track names, export edit points as still images and run scripts upon render

Pro Media Tools 1.4.3 is a significant update to our suite of media management tools with some great new features for video professionals.

OS X 10.8 or higher required

Pro Media Tools now requires a minimum of OS X 10.8. If you are running a version lower than this, you can access older versions here.

Set QuickTime movie track names

You can now specify track names in QT Edit, allowing you to give a user-friendly description of the track's contents, such as "M&E" or "French language dialogue". These descriptions will show up in the Movie Properties pane of QuickTime Player 7 and any app configured to support them. We will be adding support to CinePlay soon.

Export edit points as still images

Edit Detector can now export full-size still images of the frame at each detected edit point, which are useful for creating thumbnails or adding to spreadsheets.

Run script upon render

Render Watcher can now run an AppleScript, Bash or Swift script, or alternatively an application, upon successful render. This is useful for connecting with other services such as Slack.

Other changes

  • QT Edit - Improved support for importing FCPX markers
  • QT Edit - Fixed an issue that could cause timecode to run at a faster rate than the movie's frame rate
  • Render Watcher - Improved support for Compressor droplets

Pro Media Tools 1.4 released with major Auto Transfer overhaul

We've just released a major new version of Pro Media Tools, our suite of media management tools for video professionals.

The focus of this release was Auto Transfer, our tool for offloading and verifying data from camera memory cards. We've given it a complete overhaul which now allows it to copy and verify in a single step, resulting in significantly faster processing speeds.

Embeddable Metadata

Auto Transfer has had the ability to add metadata before transferring for a while, but until now this was used only for naming directory structures or embedding in a spreadsheet. You can now link a metadata field to a corresponding QuickTime metadata key which will be embedded in any QuickTime movies on the transferred volume. We offer a variety of presets for different NLEs and cameras so you can pick the best options for your workflow.

Determine if a volume has already been copied

Auto Transfer can now determine if a drive has already been transferred and such drives will appear as "Finished" upon mounting. If you want to transfer it again anyway, just select it and click Transfer.

It works by placing a small invisible file on the volume and is smart enough to know if the drive has been updated even if it wasn't fully reformatted. It requires drives to be writeable and can be disabled from Preferences if preferred.

Other changes

  • Auto Transfer - Copy progress is now shown in the window title and icon
  • Auto Transfer - Notification Center alerts are now shown on failure
  • Auto Transfer - Volumes chosen as destinations no longer appear as transfer sources
  • Auto Transfer - The Day field intelligently auto-increments
  • Auto Transfer - Select multiple volumes at once and batch eject or transfer
  • Auto Transfer - The number of copy failures is now linked to the drive serial number rather than volume name
  • Auto Transfer - The drive's UUID is now logged in the spreadsheet

You can read the full list of changes here.
