Introducing CinePlay, the professional Mac video player

We're pleased to introduce our newest product, CinePlay for Mac. CinePlay is intended as a professional alternative to QuickTime Player X. It plays back modern video formats and offers masks, safe areas, timecode overlays, markers and more.

Masks

Mask video to a variety of aspect ratios.

Safe Areas

View 4:3 and 16:9 safe areas over video.

Timecode Window

As well as timecode overlays, you can display timecode in a resizable window. If you're on a multiple-monitor setup you can drag it to a different display to prevent timecode from distracting the client.

Markers

Set colored markers and export them to FCP and Avid marker lists.

Marker Window

See all of your markers or Kollaborate comments in a separate window.

Timecode Output

Output Mackie and MIDI Timecode for syncing to other devices or applications like Cut Notes.

Trim and Transcode

Set in and out points and trim the video or transcode to a different codec.

Remote Control

Remotely control CinePlay from your iOS device with Editmote.

Cloud integration

CinePlay is integrated with Kollaborate. Use the built-in Kollaborate browser to navigate through your project, then double-click a video to play it.

Markers you add will appear instantly for others as comments. Any comments someone else makes on the same video while you are watching it are shown as Notification Center alerts.

CinePlay is an essential tool for video professionals. There's a 15-day trial available and Kollaborate cloud functionality is free to make it easy to share videos with clients. CinePlay is available for an introductory price of $29 and is the first product to use our new online licensing system.

To find out more, see the feature list, read the user manual or download the free 15-day trial. We're keen to hear feedback to help us develop the application further, so please let us know how it fits in with your workflow.

Introducing our new account portal

We've just launched our new account portal that allows you to easily view and manage your Digital Rebellion application licenses.

Registration is quick and easy. If our system detects that you have software licenses registered to the email address you signed up with, it will send you an email with a link to confirm your address. Once you've confirmed it, you'll be able to view all of the registration information for each product you own.

If you have different products registered to different addresses, you can easily link them to your account by confirming that you own the other address. If you no longer have access to the old address, please contact us and we'll help you link it up to the new account.

Furthermore, we will be switching to an online registration system for all new products and major updates to existing products. This makes registering and licensing our products easier because you will be able to license applications simply by entering your email address and password.

No shipping products are yet using the new registration system but because there are likely to be a number of questions about this change we've prepared an FAQ below.

Q. Does the new licensing system mean you are switching to a rental model?

A. No, our licenses are still permanent, it's just a change to how you register the application on your computer.

Q. Do I need internet access to register?

A. Yes, you will require an internet connection at the point of registration.

Q. Must my computer constantly be connected to the internet in order to use the application?

A. No, this is not necessary. You will need to connect periodically and we're not yet sure of the exact grace period but it is likely to be once every few months.

Q. Am I locked out of the software if I forget my password?

A. No, a password is only required if you want to register or unregister the software. If you forget your password you can reset it here.

Pro Media Tools 1.2 - QT Edit batch metadata editing and more

Yesterday we released Pro Media Tools 1.2 with several new features and tweaks.

QT Edit batch metadata editing

You can now add, modify and delete metadata for a range of files at once. Any changes you make will apply to every file in the batch.

Other changes include automatically opening files in a batch if you select more than one and chapters are now displayed with their positions in timecode rather than seconds.

Improved Edit Detector compatibility with Adobe Premiere

Adobe Premiere Pro is a lot fussier about the formatting of XML than FCP 7 so we've now created a separate export option for Premiere XML markers.

Improved Render Watcher compatibility

We've made several improvements to Render Watcher to make it more compatible with the latest versions of Adobe Media Encoder and Compressor.

Pro Media Tools is an invaluable toolkit to help editors and post production professionals enhance their media management workflows. To find out more view the feature list, read the user manual, watch the overview video or download the free 15-day trial.

CinePlay 1.2.2 released - M3U8 support, gestures and auto-pause

Yesterday we released CinePlay 1.2.2 and CinePlay: Kollaborate Edition 1.2.2, minor updates to our iOS professional video players.

M3U8 Playlist support

M3U8 playlists are now supported from the Add Web URL dialog. CinePlay will display a list of videos that updates dynamically if the playlist changes.

New gestures

We've added new gestures based on user feedback. You can now pinch to zoom, tap on the left or right side of the frame to step one frame back and forth or tap with two fingers to step 24 frames.

Auto-pause when adding a marker

Adding or editing a marker will now automatically pause and resume playback afterwards.

Redesigned Kollaborate login dialog

Having to exit the app and go to the iOS Settings app to change Kollaborate Server settings was confusing to users so you can now select the Kollaborate server directly in the login dialog. You can also save presets for common servers.

CinePlay is a useful mobile feedback and review tool, offering timecode support, markers, overlays, masks, cloud support and more. It's available for iOS devices on the App Store and a free version is also available to users of our Kollaborate cloud workflow platform.

Cut Notes and Kollaborate discounts for SpottingSession customers

It's come to our attention that the iOS note-taking app SpottingSession and video upload service ProSpotting will be shutting down on January 31st, rendering both products unusable after this date.

We're therefore offering a sale on our competing iOS note-taking app, Cut Notes, to help users make the switch. Cut Notes syncs timecode with Avid Media Composer for Mac (via a free plugin), Pro Tools and various other apps including Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro X.

Cut Notes will be $8.99 through February 7th (reduced from $12.99). This lower price is available to all customers. Unlike SpottingSession, Cut Notes is a standalone app that will continue to function even if we choose to discontinue it in future.

Cut Notes is integrated with our cloud workflow platform, Kollaborate, offering live commenting on cloud videos, group note-taking sessions and many other features. We're offering a 15% refund to new subscribers who purchase a 1 year subscription and can provide proof of a pre-existing ProSpotting subscription. The ProSpotting subscription should have been purchased before January 27th 2014. This promotion runs through February 7th too.

If you want to try out the apps before purchasing, sign up for a free no-obligation Kollaborate trial (no credit card needed) and download the free Kollaborate-only version of Cut Notes. You can then either buy the full version of the app or upgrade the free version via in-app purchase.

We're keen to hear feature requests and other feedback from SpottingSession customers and help you manage the transition smoothly, so feel free to contact us with any questions or comments.

Pro Versioner 2.0.14 released with FCPX 10.1 support

Pro Versioner 2.0.14 is now out, offering FCPX 10.1 support alongside bug fixes and minor tweaks. Pro Versioner is a backup and versioning tool for your creative projects.

The app can now locate projects and events inside FCPX Libraries, by manually dragging in a library or through the Watch Folder feature. We recommend updating watch folders to point to your Movies folder or the root of your library storage location and search for .fcpproject and .fcpevent files.

We're also pleased to announce that FCPX 10.1 no longer automatically modifies projects and events that you're not using, meaning that Pro Versioner backups will no longer be triggered for old projects.

There are several other tweaks and bug fixes in this version which you can read about here.

Pro Versioner gives you peace of mind with extensive project backup cataloging, management and redundancy. To find out more, visit our overview page, read the user manual or download the free trial.

Pro Maintenance Tools 2.0.19 released with FCPX 10.1 compatibility

We've just released Pro Maintenance Tools 2.0.19, a minor update to our flagship maintenance and troubleshooting suite.

FCPX 10.1 compatibility

FCPX 10.1 included a media management revamp with the Libraries feature, which confused some of our users because it was not immediately clear how to access projects and events inside the library bundle (it's actually just a folder you can right-click to open).

We've now modified the Open dialogs in Corrupt Clip Finder and Project Repair to allow you to navigate inside libraries to access your projects and events.

Improved Preference Manager Creative Cloud compatibility

Preference Manager now supports the under-the-hood changes in the Adobe Creative Cloud 7.2 update, which fixes an issue in which After Effects workspaces may not backup.

This is a subset of the complete changes in this version, which you can read here.

Pro Maintenance Tools is an essential toolkit for maintaining, optimizing and troubleshooting your editing system. To find out more see the feature list, read the user manual, watch the overview video or download the free 15-day trial.

Kollaborate Server 1.0.5 released - installer improvements, sharing overhaul and more

We’ve just released Kollaborate Server 1.0.5, a minor update to our in-house cloud workflow platform.

Improved installer

We’ve made various improvements to the installer based on user feedback, including more checks for dependencies and configuration problems, along with bug fixes and other improvements.

The installer will now allow you to resume where you left off if you need to restart your computer as well as detecting existing installations.

Additionally, licenses can now be installed automatically if your file permissions allow, otherwise you will be prompted to download and manually copy the license file as in previous versions.

Sharing overhaul

Sharing files with people outside a project has now been streamlined. All users wishing to create a link must now have admin permissions (you can set this from the Team page). Creating a link and emailing it is now one step instead of two and previously-used email addresses appear in a popup menu for convenience.

The recipients of the link are shown in a list, including the number of times they viewed it. This only applies to people who were emailed the link directly through the site and only applies to links emailed from now on.

Player changes

Navigating between files is much easier with the built-in file browser. Click the dropdown arrow to show it, then click on a file to switch to it.

Additionally, metadata tags are shown in their own tab below the player and the sync setting is also remembered so you don’t have to keep clicking it when switching between files for Cut Notes sync.

Uploading improvements

The upload form has inherited the automatic revisions option from Kollaborate Transfer, where a file will become a revision if a file with the same name (or the same with a version number such as myfile_0002) exists in the folder.

By default, after uploading you will now be shown the new file immediately. We’ve added a dropdown menu with various options to perform after uploading a file, so if you want to revert to the old behavior select "Edit metadata".

Other changes

  • Files with comments now show an icon next to their filename (see below).
  • "This movie is not optimized" banners can be disabled in the Configure section of Admin Area.
  • Synced Sessions can now be removed.
  • Fixed an issue that could enable non-owners to end a synced session
  • Fixed an issue that could prevent messages being marked as read
  • UI improvements to the Move Items dialog
  • Documentation overhaul

Kollaborate is a cloud workflow platform that keeps getting better and Kollaborate Server allows you to run it in-house on your own servers and storage. To find out more, view the feature list, read the Kollaborate Server documentation or sign up for the free 15-day trial.
